THC VS CBD: The Affects In Healthy Male Patients

The Cannabis plant can often be a confusing plant to discuss. The plant itself contains many different cannabinoids. Each provide many different effects on the mind and body. The most common cannabinoid currently is Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. This is the cannabinoid responsible for giving the “high” effect many speak about. Although many find great use of this cannabinoid, it does have many side effects. Some of these are anxiety, paranoia, and other psychotic symptoms. Therefore, a new cannabinoid has come to the front of the line as a cannabinoid that can provide all the same health benefits without the side effects. This is called Cannabidiol. However, first let us learn more about what Cannabidiol is. Then we will tell you why you should look more into this potential “miracle drug.”

Cannabidiol Cancer Treatment

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a major non-psychotomimetic compound of the Cannabis Sativa plant. It provides many benefits similar to that of Cannabis, but contains no THC. Therefore, CBD is completely legal in all 50 states. CBD has been shown to carry neuroprotective and neurogenic effects. It also displays anxiolytic effects in humans and animals. CBD is currently being used to treat many mental and autoimmune disorders. It is also currently being tested for its anti-cancer properties.

In a federal funded study, which can be read about more here, 16 healthy males were given an equal dose of THC. Another 16 males were given liquid CBD. This was a double-blind study. Therefore, neither group knew which cannabinoid they received. They were monitored every one, two, and three hours. The results were extremely shocking.

The group who received the THC cannabinoid reported feelings of anxiety, dysphoria, and positive or negative psychotic symptoms. They also appeared intoxicated and extremely lazy.

The group who received CBD reported feeling relaxed and at ease. Their heart rate had decreased. There was also a decrease in any feelings of anxiety or nervousness they had experienced. Although the were relaxed, they were extremely functional. They even reported feeling like they were able to function better than normal. This was because of their relaxed body-state while obtaining alertness of the mind.

This study greatly proves that in the battle of THC vs CBD, CBD has many of the similar benefits as THC without the debilitating or psychotic side effects. Many of the subjects who were given CBD inquired about incorporating the cannabinoid into their daily life.
